Medical Insurance To Cover Eating Disorders

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007
This is an interesting piece of news that was just published. More families are fighting back to claim from insurance. For claim purposes, eating disorders are classified under mental health and this classification usually have limited payouts. Families of those with eating disorders have drained a lot of resources to care for their loved ones who need in patient care. That can typically be more than $1,000 each day. The case highlighted was Mike Hall.  His daugther Megan who has an eating disorder, was hospitalised for 16 months.  While his insurance company paid for 10 days of treatment, he was left with more than $1 million. Now, a growing number of families and patient advocates are encouraged by medical expert opinions that say eating disorders have a biological component.  With this, they are suing their insurance companies for amount paid in hospital bills, an amount that they can barely afford.
