Alternative Therapies For Eating Disorders

There are a lot of alternative therapies for eating disorder prevention. These include herbs, massage therapy, homeotherapy, psychotherapy and nutrition therapy. Each of these ways of eating disorder prevention will play an important role in treating your eating disorder. Therefore, each of them deserves to be looked at individually:

* There are a variety of herbs that act as stimulants in eating disorder prevention. They are recommended as a complementary therapy. Some of these herbs include Angelica Archangelica, Taraxacum Officinale, Cnicus Benedictus, Cinnamon, Fenugreek Seed, Skull Cap, Roman Chamomile and Gentiana Lutea. * Receiving massage therapy two or three times a week on a regular basis will help to remove or relieve anxiety. This will be a major help in eating disorder prevention. Massage will also increase the dopamine activity in your brain. This will also help to improve your concentration. * Intensive homeotherapy will help with eating disorder prevention. This has no side effects, but it will take an extremely long time to help cure the disorder. Nevertheless, this is still considered to be highly effective. * When you receive psychotherapy it should include individual psychotherapy, behavior therapy, family therapy, group therapy, cognitive therapy and follow up relaxation exercises. * In individual therapy you will be alone with a therapist who can work with you on your emotional stress. This will help you to overcome your problems. Behavior therapy will then teach you new patterns to deal with this emotional stress. It will also teach you relaxation exercises for both your body and your mind. * Of course family support and encouragement will also be greatly beneficial. This also holds true for group therapy. It will also help you to remove yourself from a negative social group and place you in a positive one. This is important because you do not want to feel isolated, especially not during this period of your life. * The last two types of therapy, cognitive therapy and nutritional therapy, are also important for eating disorder prevention. This is because these therapies teach you the proper way to look at food and how to eat. In this therapy you will keep a 24-hour diary of what you eat. This is how your treatment plan will be closely monitored. When you work with a dietician to plan a new, healthy diet, this diary will not be difficult. Of course, dieticians do highly recommend that you gradually introduce new foods to your diet in order to ensure that you do not suffer any setbacks. Doctors have done studies that show that if you suffer from an eating disorder then you will have very low nutritional reserves. For this reason it is important to increase the amount of vitamins and minerals that you should take. This is especially true about the vitamin B complex, including vitamins B2 (riboflavin), niacin and B6 (pyridoxine). It is also important for you to increase the amounts of antioxidants that you take. This will reduce oxidative stress. Antioxidants include Vitamins A, C, and E. They assist in reducing the deterioration that your body suffers from because of free oxygen radicals. Zinc is also important because it increases appetite, smell and cognitive function, repairs skin and relieves depression. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are needed for the body’s normal development. This includes omega-6 fatty acid and omega-3 fatty acid. For this reason, food that is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids should be plentiful in your diet. This includes such foods as fish. It is also important to eat a balanced meal. In this way your general health will improve.
